Attributes

An attribute is one dimension of choice on a product - Size, Color, Material, Voltage - together with the values it can take. Attributes do two jobs in OSOSS: they generate the variants of a configurable product, and they become the specification fields and shop filters your customers browse by.

How attributes work in OSOSS

An attribute is defined once here and reused across the catalog. Three settings decide what it does for you:

SettingEffect
ConfigurableThe attribute takes part in variant generation. Size with S/M/L on a configurable product produces three children.
FilterableThe attribute appears as a filter on your storefront, so shoppers can narrow by it.
ComparableThe attribute is included when a customer compares two products side by side.

The Type controls how the field is captured and displayed: free text, number, date, select, dropdown, buttons, cards, carousel, color selector, tags, image or images, or a rich-text editor. A colour attribute presented as a colour selector shows swatches rather than words, which is the difference between a catalog that sells and one that reads like a spreadsheet.

Product type scopes the attribute to inventory products, services, bundles or configurable products, so a service never offers a size it cannot have. Required forces a value before the product saves, Show in quick create puts the field on the fast product form, and Sortable fixes the order attributes appear in.

Create an attribute

  1. Name the attribute in both languages - this label is what appears on the product page and in the shop filter.
  2. Choose its Type, and for choice types the Selection style that suits it.
  3. Set Product type so it only offers itself where it belongs.
  4. Add the values, each with its Arabic and English text, its order, and an image where the value is visual (a fabric swatch, a colour chip).
  5. Switch on Configurable, Filterable and Comparable as appropriate, then save.
Note: Variant counts multiply. Two attributes with 4 and 5 values generate 20 children, each one a product with its own barcode, price and stock. Add a third dimension only when you really sell every combination.
Warning: Removing a value from an attribute that is already used breaks the variants built on it. Retire a value by leaving it in place and deactivating the variants instead.

What you can do on this page

Every action on this page, step by step. What you see depends on your role, so a control your account is not set up for simply does not appear.

Add a record

  1. Click Add above the table - some pages label it New or show a + icon.
  2. Complete the form. Required fields carry a red asterisk and the form will not submit until they are filled.
  3. Click Save. Validation runs on submit; any field that fails shows its message directly beneath itself, and the form scrolls to the first problem.
  4. You land back on the list with the new record in place.

Searchable dropdowns (customer, product, account, branch...) read live data - start typing to filter rather than scrolling. Most also let you create the missing record inline so you don't lose the form you are in.

Edit a record

  1. Open the row's actions menu at the end of the row and choose Edit, or open the record and use Edit there.
  2. The form loads with current values. Change only what you need.
  3. Click Save.
Documents that are already posted to accounting, paid, or fulfilled lock the fields that would change history. That is deliberate - issue a refund, a credit note, or an adjustment instead of rewriting the original.

Open and read a record

  1. Click the row, or choose View in the row's actions menu.
  2. The detail page shows the record's own fields, its related documents, and the actions that apply to it in its current state.
  3. Use the breadcrumb or your browser's back button to return - your filters, sort, and page position are preserved.

Export the list

  1. Filter and choose your columns first - the export mirrors exactly what is on screen, not the whole table.
  2. Click Export All.
  3. The file downloads as a spreadsheet: one row per record, your visible columns in your order.
